A good fishing chair can really make or break a session. Particularly if you’re a coarse fishing fan. If you’re anything like us, you just need somewhere to sit with supreme comfort to while away the ludicrous amount of time between catches.
Of course, it’s not just comfort that matters. Storage. Storage is important. You need somewhere to put your coffee and or beer. And you need adjustable legs and a reclining backrest, particularly if you’re not a normal height or normally proportioned. In an ideal world, the chair would also have a rod rest and a little storage bag, but these things aren’t essential. More like a nice little touch.
Below we’ve rounded up the best chairs for people with bad backs, feeder fishing, for heavier people and – in our opinion the most important – for comfort. So check out our favourite fishing chairs below.

What makes a good fishing chair?
There’s a surprising amount that goes into a fishing chair and in our opinion there are eight key things to consider when choosing a good fishing chair;
- Comfort: Adjustable features like armrests, backrests and legs are key, as is padded fabric.
- Durability: The higher-quality fishing chairs should have fabric of around 600D (Deniers), which is a signifier of durable fabric.
- Portability: If you’re covering distance, having a lightweight easy-to-transport chair is a godsend. Look for carrying bags, straps and a quality folding mechanism.
- Storage: If you’re someone who likes a coffee, sandwich, beer and a little side table (or cup holder) to help sort out your rigs and fishing gear, then look for a chair with these amenities.
- Load capacity: One of the most important items on the list, particularly for the larger gentleman. If you’re north of 100kg the lighter-weight chairs just won’t be suitable for you.
- Versatility: Chairs with adjustable legs, backrest and armrests are fantastic, but some chairs even double up as bedchairs, so make sure you buy what you need.

Fox R3 Camo ChairBest fishing chair for a bad back
- High-backed angling chair with neoprene-covered armrests
- Adjustable back with cam wheel operation
- Dimensions: 20cm deep x 70cm wide x 84cm high
- Weight: 7.5kg
The Fox R3 Camo Chair is a very comfortable, high-backed angling chair with neoprene-covered armrests designed for long carp fishing sessions. The R-series comes in three versions: R1 (small and low-lying), R2 (intermediate for short overnight sessions), R3, which is the third model in the series, which is the largest and most feature-rich in the range. Its high-density foam padding is coated in micro-fleece, ensuring exquisite softness from seat to headrest. The adjustable, semi-reclining back is really important as out of the box the seat is unlikely to be perfect for anyone outside of the average-sized man straight out of the box.
In terms of durability and reliability, the steel frame and four adjustable legs provide stability on any terrain, while swivel mud feet ensure a sturdy base in all conditions. Right up any carp fisherman’s street thanks to its completely unnecessary camouflage pattern. The elephant in the room with the new R series model is the price point, which at over £150 is high. But if you consider this as a lifetime chair (which is what it is designed to be), the price seems a lot less troubling.
If you like the chair but don’t particularly want to pay over £150, both the R1 and R2 versions of this chair are still good options and significantly cheaper.
Caperlan Carp Fishing Morphoz LevelchairBest fishing chair for a heavy person
- A reclining backrest with seven positions
- 140kg load capacity
- Weight: 6kg
The Caperlan Carp Fishing Morphoz Levelchair is an excellent choice for almost any carp angler, regardless of size, weight or terrain. Designed with meticulous attention to detail, this levelchair is genuinely tough, providing stability and support for bigger gentlemen even on uneven terrains. The adjustable and padded seat and backrest, innovative reclining feature and 140kg weight capacity make this fishing chair ideal for big lads and long fishing trips.
The chair also comes with a large detachable bivvy tray for convenient storage of essential items, ensuring everything is within easy reach. Crafted with the traditional carp angler in mind, the Morphoz Levelchair is foldable, but a little heavy, meaning that whilst its comfort and durability are undeniable, it’s a little on the heavy side.
Caperlan Folding Fishing Seat Essenseat 500 ComfortBest value fishing chair
- Folding fishing seat with padded seat and armrests
- Load capacity: 140kg
- Weight: 8kg
- Rod rests, umbrella rest, foldable shelf and 4 adjustable legs
The Caperlan Folding Fishing Seat Essenseat 500 is a folding fishing seat complete with a rod holder, umbrella holder and a folding shelf, offering a compact and practical solution for all-day coarse anglers. It really is a chair designed for all sessions and prevailing weather conditions. Really the only drawback to this chair is its weight, which at a whopping 8kg means this is not a chair designed for carrying up and down riverbanks.

- Two side mesh pockets and padded fleece rim
The Sonik SK-TEK Sunchair Fishing Chair is a fantastic seat for anglers looking for top-of-the-range comfort by the water’s edge. The chair also comes with a large, detachable bivvy tray for storing essential items and rigging up with new baits or hook lengths. Or just for holding your beer or coffee obviously.
