Description
Savage Gear’s SG2 Medium Game Travel Rod is a really well-balanced, good-value travel fishing rod that birthed the SG4 Travel Rod. Our personal favourite. It isn’t quite as aesthetically pleasing or as sensitive, but it’s still a very good travel rod. We would recommend the 7’1″ size as a go-to for beginner travel fishermen. If not quite one of the best travel fishing rods anymore, it’s still a great option.
The manufacturing quality is very good. The blanks fit together beautifully and the bite detection and sensitivity for a four-piece is good. In terms of durability, travel rods are never as good as typical two-pieces, but that’s to be expected. Four-piece rods have more weak points and aren’t as capable of landing large fish, but with a casting weight of up to 45g and a fast action, it can handle some reasonable size fish. But it’s certainly not a good choice for trolling, particularly in rough conditions or with big fish.
