Is the Revo SX a good reel?

Yes, the Revo SX is a good reel. Lightweight, reasonably powerful and durable, whilst it isn't ideal for targeting huge fish and isn't a saltwater-specific reel, it's a fantastic step up for most beginner and intermediate fishermen. The Carbon Matrix Hybrid Drag System is a significant upgrade compared to most beginner and intermediate reels.

The Abu Garcia Revo SX is made in Korea. The majority of Abu Garcia products are made in either China or Korea, including the Revo SX, Revo Beast and Revo SK. All very good reels, made much more cost-effectively in the east.

The Abu Garcia Revo SX max drag comes in at just over 9kg or 20lb. Slightly less powerful than a number of its counterparts like the Slammer or Spinfisher, but also very lightest at around 220g. It isn't designed for the most powerful fish, but is a fantastic all-around spinning reel.

Abu Garcia’s Revo SX is a slow-oscillating reel that’s lightweight and has a superb gear ratio. It’s a fantastic spinning lure, particularly if you’re planning on travelling long distances and need something light and durable. The reduction of friction reduces the speed line travels up and down the spool, improving casting distance and accuracy.

Description

The Revo is the third in Abu Garcia’s excellent series of saltwater spinning reels following on from the Ambassadeur and the Cardinal. Over the last 20 years or more these Abu Garcia spinning reels have made a name for themselves based on their durability, rigidity, smoothness and lack of structural issues. Whilst rigidity seems like an odd plus point for a reel. the Revo SX’s single-piece manufacturing ensures there are no weak points and is fantastic for power dispersion.

The Revo SX is a slow oscillating reel that is by far the lightest model in the series. Significantly so. Both of these make for extremely accurate casting – from both a distance and accuracy perspective. Reducing the speed line travels up and down the spool decreases friction and drag on the lead. All of which makes this reel supremely accurate.

Finally, if you’re someone – like me – who dies a little inside whenever your line gets tangled, fear no more. The Revo has a Rocket Spool Lip designed to mitigate any potential tangles. Perfectly designed for a reel with a higher-than-average gear ratio and lighter weight. Much like the Shimano Vanford or Penn Spinfisher.
