The 7 Best Lure Fishing Bags in 2023

In our opinion, a lure fishing bag is an absolutely essential piece of kit when it comes to lure fishing. Whether you’re sea fishing with lures or freshwater rivers and lakes you cover a lot of ground. Whilst lure fishing is nothing like carp fishing when it comes to terminal tackle, you still need to carry spare lures, potentially leader material, pliers, a landing net, etc.

As such you don’t just need a great lure fishing box. You need a bag for lure fishing. If you’re out for light sessions a shoulder or waist bag is a great choice and the standard backpack/chest pack combination is perfect for heavier-duty trips.

So here’s a roundup of the best lure fishing backpacks, chest bags, waist bags, and slings with a price point for everyone. And if you’re looking to further improve your fishing tackle and accessories, we’d recommend buying one of the best fishing chairs.

What does our setup look like?

We absolutely love Savage Gear’s Sling Bag when it comes to easy access on shorter fishing trips. The internal storage is excellent and the mini lure boxes are fantastic when fishing in rivers for perch and jack pike. It can absolutely fit larger lure boxes in there too and is superbly convenient when lure fishing for bass too. For larger trips, it shouldn’t be your only bag, but it’s a great option for travelling light.

What makes a good lure fishing bag?

A good lure fishing bag should make lure fishing simpler and more efficient. You don’t want to have to carry multiple bags to house all of your equipment. You need a one-stop-shop that is:

  • Weather resistant: primarily something that is at least water-resistant
  • Full of pockets
  • Lure box, plier, rod and terminal tackle compartments
  • One that is either suitable for big days out or for a few hours on the stream
  • Corrosion-resistant: if you’re doing a lot of sea fishing
  • Preferably comes complete with lure fishing boxes and separate, versatile compartments

What is the best lure fishing bag?

The best lure fishing bag is Savage Gear’s Specialist Lure Rucksack. Made with really durable rip-resistant fabric, complete with three lure boxes and ergonomic shoulder straps designed for long days out on the bank or hiking to various different marks. A really comfortable bag made by fishermen, for fishermen.

  • Dimensions: 40cm x 38cm x 23cm
  • Made with 600D non-rip fabric
  • Comes complete with three lure boxes an an internal divider
  • The ergonomic shoulder straps are ultra-comfortable, even on long days

Savage Gear’s Specialist Lure Rucksack is our lure fishing bag of choice and one that is suitable for all manner of fishing trips. The bag itself has some really standout features including saltwater-proof zippers, net and bottle clips and even unhooking mat straps.

We’d say the bag’s standout feature is how comfortable it is. Lure fishing trips can be uncomfortable ventures, but this bag’s ergonomic design is truly excellent. The 600D fabric is perfect for walking down smaller streams and across craggy peaks and is strong enough to withstand your typical scratches and scuffs.

The D in fabric strength stands for Denier and is a unit of textile measurement. The higher the number, the stronger the fabric and the less likely it is to rip.

Rodeel Specialist Fishing BackpackBest lure fishing bag for storage

Rodeel Specialist Fishing Backpack

Excellent value
Rodeel Specialist Fishing Backpack
  • Arguably the best all-round backpack for the price, particularly when it comes to storage
  • Dimensions: 43.8cm x 31.8cm x 16.4cm
  • Also made with 600D non-rip fabric
POSITIVES
  • The waistbands reduce the strain on your shoulders and back
  • Waterproof in light rain
  • The rod pocket is an excellent addition
NEGATIVES
  • The bag doesn’t come complete with tackle boxes

Firstly Rodeel’s Specialist Fishing Backpack is more than just a fishing backpack. It’s really a multi-purpose outdoor backpack that is designed for the fishing market. But the 600D rip-resistant fabric, ample storage space, and comfort make it an excellent choice for outdoor activities, particularly at this price point.

Complete with side compartments that are designed to hold a rod hands-free (a lifesaver on certain trips) and multiple pockets, straps, and clips designed to comfortably carry pliers, nets, and landing mats it’s a really good all-round lure fishing rucksack at a reasonable price.

  • Dimensions: 20cm x 31cm x 15cm
  • Made with 600D anti-rip fabric
  • The sling doesn’t run on your shoulder and the ergonomic design is also anti-slip
  • A surprisingly large amount of storage for a sling bag and comes complete with lure boxes

Savage Gear’s Sling Bag is a real personal favourite. Having a rucksack is essential on lots of lure fishing trips. But you need a snack-sized, easy-access bag that has almost complete storage for swift lure changes and tackle changeovers. There’s nothing worse than seeing your target species feeding on the surface when you have a sinking lure on and having to fetch a lure from your rucksack.

Complete with sleeves and mini lure boxes for excellent storage

This sling bag is a personal favourite thanks to the outstanding storage space that comes with it. Other shoulder bags or belts have the same level of access, but none have the same level of compartment space. It’s comfortable, rip-resistant and – for the saltwater lure fishing fanatics out there – has saltwater-proof zippers.

  • Multi-sized, hard and soft-shell compartment space with removable dividers for larger lures
  • Neoprene, weather-resistant waist bag
  • Multiple internal pouches, pockets and inserts – three main compartments and three

The Daiwa Waist Fishing Bag is arguably the best small lure bag on the market. Ultra-convenient and complete with multiple different-sized pockets it is designed for anglers who cover ground and need a customisable, lightweight bag.

Storage-wise it isn’t as comprehensive as the above Savage Gear bag, but as waist bags and belts go it’s superb. Complete with three main compartments for lures and tackle alongside three mesh side pouches that can fit accessories like smaller water bottles, pliers, and polarised sunglasses.

The larger back compartment can store larger items – larger lure boxes, a camera or food and drink. Whilst that may seem a lot for a waist bag, the detachable neck strap makes carrying it much easier.

Our favourite feature is the ridged storage foam pad as it can be used to dry off lures (and flies) to prevent saltwater damage and keep your lures ship-shape for a while longer.

Set Alert for Product: Fishing Backpack Chest Pack 500 15 L + 5 L – £59.99
  • Made with 600D rip-resistant fabric and waterproof material
  • Dimensions: 40cm x 25cm x 18cm and an overall capacity of 20l+
  • The storage sections are made from waterproof material
  • Easy access chest compartment and belt specifically designed for lure fishing

Decathlon’s own fishing brand Caperlan makes some reallly hardy, good-value products and the Fishing Backpack and Chest Pack is no different. This 3-in-1 lure fishing solution (backpack, chest pack, and storage belt) is a comfortable, accessible storage solution. The backpack itself has a 15-litre capacity and the chest pack five – is ample for storing essential lures and terminal tackle in the front and is designed for quick changes.

The backpack section also comes complete with:

  • An outer zip pocket
  • Two outer mesh pockets
  • One inner zipped pocket
  • One inner open pocket

Which is more than enough to hold a water bottle, rod and all manner of lure-fishing accessories. And – arguably my favourite feature – the two-pocketed chest pack has a hard shell that you can use to tie rigs or cut things with an element of precision.

Set Alert for Product: Dual Fishing Chest Pack 500 10l – £29.99
  • Made with 600D rip-resistant fabric and components
  • Max dimensions: 48cm x 28.5cm x 9.5cm and a 10l capacity
  • Compliant with multiple accessories
  • Clips to hold on to pliers and scissors, a landing net and a rod holder clip

Caperlan’s Dual Fishing Chest Pack is an ultra-lightweight, flexible dual-chest pack that is perfect for hands-free fishing sessions. If you’re trout fishing on chalk streams or hunting some other freshwater predators, this is a superb option.

The package includes plier/scissor sheaths, a clippable button to hold onto your landing net and two 5l chest packs that can comfortably fit medium-sized pure boxes and some terminal tackle. What you don’t have with this piece of kit is a rod holder option and whilst the backpack section is paper thin, it’s stretchy and can hold some lighter tackle.

If you love this product but are looking for something with more storage space you can combine this chest pack with Caperlan’s Backpack 500. This is what we’d recommend if you’re sea fishing with lures.

  • An excellent value, water-resistant bag for LRF fans
  • Dimensions: 20cm x 20cm x 4cm
  • Ultra-lightweight lure fishing sling bag/belt
  • Removable shoulder strap so the bag can be used as a belt

HTO’s Light Game Shoulder Bag is a really excellent budget option for LRF lovers. It has a surprising number of compartments and – although everything is held together by plastic clips – the bag is surprisingly durable. The surplus of outer pockets and clips is a nice touch, but you wouldn’t be able to hang a medium-sized travel net on the bag with any real sense of security.

In terms of absolute quality, this bag is not quite as premium as others on the list and the price point reflects that. It does feel slightly more vulnerable to conditions and the fabric itself is 420D – 30% less resistant than the more expensive models on the list. But it’s still a really good bag for the money.
